Abbreviations & Acronyms

What do they all mean?

We have a TON of these here at Eagle Bluff, and in the field of education in general.  Below you will find a list of them, along with some quick background information.

RtI (Response to Intervention)

The purpose of RtI is to provide all students with the best opportunities to succeed in school, identify students with learning or behavioral problems, and ensure that they receive appropriate instruction and related supports. The goals of RtI are to:

•Integrate all the resources to minimize risk for the long-term negative consequences associated with poor learning or behavioral outcomes

•Strengthen the process of appropriate disability identification

WIN (What I Need)

This is a time, carved out during the day (from 10:50 until 11:30 daily) in which we work with all students as described above.  Some students are universal instruction geared towards enhancing their reading skills, and for others (working with smaller teachers), the time is used to intervene based on what the student needs most.

ENCORE

Previously referred to as "allied arts", these are our special classes, like P.E., Art, Music, Technology Education, Library/Media

LMC (Learning Materials Center)

WIZARD's

Spelling simulation game, designed to engage students, and motivate them with all activities related to spelling

ILA (Integrated Language Arts)

An integration of reading and language, rather than teaching the two content areas in isolation

OEU Modules (Overaching Enduring Understanding)

The reading and language modules implemented in the 2012-13 school year, and currently being enhanced further this year

CCSS (Common Core State Standards)

Building on the excellent foundation of standards states have laid, the Common Core State Standards are the first step in providing our young people with a high-quality education. It should be clear to every student, parent, and teacher what the standards of success are in every school.

Teachers, parents and community leaders have all weighed in to help create the Common Core State Standards. The standards clearly communicate what is expected of students at each grade level. This will allow our teachers to be better equipped to know exactly what they need to help students learn and establish individualized benchmarks for them. The Common Core State Standards focus on core conceptual understandings and procedures starting in the early grades, thus enabling teachers to take the time needed to teach core concepts and procedures well—and to give students the opportunity to master them.

With students, parents and teachers all on the same page and working together for shared goals, we can ensure that students make progress each year and graduate from school prepared to succeed in college and in a modern workforce.
